Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the pair's significant age difference.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's identity.
Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside any factual proof disproving her claim opting to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The two married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
