The Gaming Giant Recruits Apex Legends Developer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Feedback

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a more defined game identity.

The president stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement follows a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

Here is the full text from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”

With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a sharper identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our fans.

The belief in this project grows every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After some time of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving Ben next week. We are all eager to persist observing the progress of the game in the months to follow.

The President

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Concept

Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the opponents with unique powers, risks, and tests that evolve every match. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The decision is in your hands."

The game lacks an announced debut schedule or platforms, but fans can expect more updates as development advances.
