The Streaming Platform is Developing a Far Cry TV Show from the Producers of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The most recent Far Cry title that gamers experienced was Far Cry 6, that starred Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the antagonist, Antón, and was released on October 6, 2021. As a series, it is known for embracing action and madness with equal excitement, all while weaving engaging, ideologically themed narratives. Little surprise that FX's recent announcement for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two producers whose creations have represented all of those things.

About the Series

Adapted from Ubisoft's successful video game franchise, the limited anthology series will be available on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The show will also parallel the video games' format by introducing a different setting and group of personalities in subsequent series.

Executive Team

Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series via their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.

“FX has had outstanding partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is original, engrossing, and wildly entertaining. We also want to appreciate our collaborators at Ubisoft for trusting us with this beloved property.”

Cast and Future Plans

Mac will also feature in the show, but at the time of writing, we have no details on what part that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago greenlit for another season, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new comprehensive agreement with the creator.

“Having the opportunity together with Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly supportive, placing faith in us with one of the most iconic video-game realms ever created. And along the way, my FX family always encourages me with their ongoing confidence and backing.”

“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an anthology program. Every instalment is a interpretation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” said Hawley. “To produce a big action show that can change from year to year, while always delving into the core of humanity through this complex and turbulent lens, is a ultimate goal. I’m excited to partner with Rob and bring our mutual unconventional, visionary approach to the screen.”

A time frame for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
